Teen Book Review — The Breadwinner

Review:
I LOVE this book. Despite the fact that it’s a realistic fiction book, it’s set halfway across the world in Kabul, Afganistan, and it seems nearly unreal. The Taliban have taken over Kabul and forbidden women to go outside, as well as arresting people for things like having a foreign education. This seems extreme and almost impossible, but this was a very real time not very long ago (the book is set in the 1990s). You can really get a sense of how people really lived from this book. Deborah Ellis is a superb author, and I plan on reading the sequels to this book. It was excellent!
