Online Resources for Waltham residents and library patrons
The following are subscription databases that Waltham residents can access from home using their library card. All library visitors can access these in the library at one of our desktop computers.
- Health and Wellness Resource Center
Provides instant access to carefully compiled and trusted medical reference materials. Includes nearly 400 health/medical journals, numerous reference volumes, over 700 health videos from partner Healthology, Inc., hundreds of pamphlets and health-related articles from 2,200 general interest publications in addition to a broad collection of Gale reference titles. Material contained in this Resource Center is intended for informational purposes only.
- Health Reference Center
Health Reference Center provides information for both the those looking to learn about a specific condition and also for those who are conducting medical research. This database indexes over 960 health journals and provides full-text from over 730 of those titles. Also included is the full text of 200 medical pamphlets and six medical reference books.
- Salem Health
Salem Health brings online access to Salem Press’ award-winning health reference works." Browse Magill's Medical Guide, Salem Health: Cancer, Salem Health: Psychology & Mental Health, Salem Health: Genetics & Inherited Diseases.
- Nursing and Allied Health Collection Resource Center
Professiona resources for those who are in the nursing profession, nursing students, or to those who are considering nursing. The titles in this resource cover a variety of aspects in the health care world.
- Nursing Resource Center
A resource for nursing students, but also helpful for those already in the profession. Users can get help with NCLEX test preparation.
- Physical Therapy and Sports Medicine Collection
A variety of resources available to those in the physical therapy and sports medicine fields.
- Credo Reference
A database that features online content from a hundred reference books in a broad range of subjects. The topic page resulting from your subject search presents and organizes relevant results from these 500+ resources as well as relevant results from other library resources including books, ebooks, ejournals, databases and more.

- Medline Plus
This excellent site, from the National Library of Medicine and the National Institutes of Health contains an extensive amount of health information. The information is accesible and easy to understand. Browse the site's collection of informative videos.
- Medline Plus en Español

- NIH Senior Health
Health site from the National Institutes of Health, specifically for senior citizens. Visitors can easily adjust text size, the contrast, and listen to the text read aloud.
- Mayo Clinic Health Information
Health information from one of the leading clinics in the United States. Features include a sympton checker, drugs and supplements information, and first aid help.
- Pubmed
Search for articles on health topics and medical research on this site, created by the National Library of Medicine and the National Institutes of Health.
- Massachusetts Massachusetts Medical Society -- Patients
Information for patients including tips on fiding a doctor, end of life care, and flu advisories.
- Web MD
Probably one of the most well known commercial sites for medical information online.
- MassResources.org Health Care General Programs and Health Care Specialized Programs
These sites, from Community Resources Information,details all of the health care programs available, including MassHealth and Medicare.

Drug Information
- Daily Med
This site from the National Library of Medicine provides label information on prescription and non-prescription drugs, including warnings, pharmacology information, and indications.
- Drug Information Portal
This site, also from the National Library of Medicine, is searchable by brand or generic drug name. It culiminates drug summaries on a variety of articles from a variety of sources including DailyMed and MedlinePlus.
- Herbs at a Glance
Information about herbs and botanicals from the National Center for Complementary and Alternative Medicine.
- Drugs.Com
Commercial site for drug information.
- Clinicaltrials.gov
Information about trials for specific drugs. Great information about specific medications or for anyone who is on the lookout to participate in trials for extra money.
